Denver-based GrowGeneration, a leading provider of specialty hydroponic and organic garden centers, today announced the acquisition of HGS Hydro, one of the leading hydroponic garden center chains in the country.
HGS Hydro is headquartered in Shelby Township and operates six stores across Michigan. A new location is slated to open this fall.
“The combination of HGS Hydro and GrowGeneration will further consolidate GrowGen’s leading position as the nation’s largest chain of hydroponic garden centers. As one of the pioneers in our industry, we are excited to bring our years of experience, knowledge and relationships to the GrowGen team to support the continued growth and success of the company, ”said Rocky Shaenna, Founder and CEO of HGS Hydro.
With 2020 sales of approximately $ 50 million, HGS Hydro was the largest hydroponic garden center chain in the state of Michigan. The purchase brings the number of hydroponic garden centers that GrowGeneration has in the state to 14 and the total number of stores to 65.
HGS Hydro locations include Shelby Township, Southfield, Sterling Heights, Hazel Park, Walled Lake and Albion, with Imlay City set to go live in the coming months.
“We are excited to add HGS Hydro and its impressive leadership and sales teams to our store portfolio before the end of the year. The addition of HGS Hydro will make Michigan GrowGen’s second largest state after California. Michigan is one of the fastest growing states for medicinal and recreational cannabis sales, ”said Darren Lampert, CEO of GrowGeneration.
“We look forward to building on the HGS Hydro experience as we continue to expand our commercial presence. This acquisition represents our ongoing focus on acquiring ‘best of breed’ hydroponic operations in the US and adding seasoned veterans to our management team. “
